Cradle Cap
Definition:
Cradle cap refers to oily, at times white or yellow, thick scaly patches of skin on baby’s scalp.
- The cause is unknown, but it is postulated that in utero hormonal exposure as well as secondary fungal and bacterial infections may contribute to the development of this skin condition.
- Poor hygiene does not play a role in developing cradle carp and it is not contagious.
- See a health provider if the rash does not improve, gets worse, seems infected or other symptoms are present.
Treatment:
Environment/Lifestyle/Diet
- Use water or washcloth to wash baby’s scalp regularly and remove scales
- Do not scratch the scalp or use harsh soaps
- Identify and treat food allergies
Supplements:
- Massage olive oil, borage oil to scalp to loosen the scales
- Use a drop of Lavender oil to the vegetable oil to massage the scalp
